January is a must-go-to-Cebu for my family and I. We never fail to visit and pray at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño. There’s also the celebration of the Sinulog festival, but our main priority whenever we’re in Cebu is to visit the Sto. Niño and Simala church.
This year, we decided to do another activity aside from the usual church visit.
We tried canyoneering!!!! And it was the highlight of my January 2017! (Even though it wasn’t in my bucketlist)
Canyoneering or Canyoning is “a popular outdoor trek that involves traveling down creeks or streams within a canyon through variety of means including walking, jumping, swimming, climbing, abseiling.”
* Kawasan Falls *
Good thing canyoneering is one of the activities you can do when in Cebu. Though this outdoor activity is located outside the city proper — Badian area, which I think is more or less a 3 hour drive from the city center (if I remember it correctly).
This adrenaline pumping adventure will start at Canlaob river downstream going to Kawasan falls. All tourists are accompanied with local accredited guides.
Now here’s my canyoneering experience!
(You just have to jump and let go!)
We left our hotel early in the morning and arrived past 7am.
Tip: Make sure you had heavy breakfast since the whole canyoneering experience lasts 3-4 hours or more (depends on how fast you finish the trail).
Upon arriving at the registration area, there was a brief orientation and we were given helmets, life vests, free water and chocolate bar! 🙂
We paid 1,500 for the whole canyoneering guided package. I suggest you get a guide especially if it’s your first time and not familiar with the trail. Don’t worry, the local tour guides are nice and very helpful especially when going and jumping down the trail.
It was a good day for all of us! Not too hot, not gloomy either. Just a perfect weather to do the trail, which involves walking, hiking, trekking, jumping, and swimming! We started around 9 am and finished past 1pm since we took our lunch there at the Kawasan falls.
Lunch by the falls! Not your everyday lunch setting right? 🙂
The water temperature was divine! Not kidding!! It was so refreshing and irresistible. Every minute was pure bliss for me! 💖
Here are some of the photos of our canyoneering experience at Badian, Cebu.
I highly suggest you try this outdoor activity too! Do something that scares you or something that you’ve never tried before.
But if you’re really scared of jumping from high places, it’s okay. No worries! You can still do and enjoy canyoneering! You just have to walk through the trail without doing all the mandatory jumps. It will just take you some time to finish the trail.
I’m so happy I did all the mandatory jumps. It took me some time. Lol. I had to internalize. I like the adrenaline and all. But at that moment, when it was my turn to jump, my knees and legs just froze for a few minutes haha! I still jumped anyway!
Adventures like this make me feel alive! To be one with nature makes me feel connected with my true happiness. 😁
So what are you waiting for? Go and jump! This activity will surely take your breath away! (Pun intended) 😂
Till my next adventure! 😘
